Carlsen Verlag are the largest independent children's publisher in Germany. The fiction hardback list boasts authors such as J K Rowling, Philip Pullman, Stephenie Meyer, Melvin Burgess, Meg Rosoff, Jeanne Birdsall and Lauren Oliver - to name just a few.
David Wiesner, Chris van Allsburg, Lauren Child, Helen Oxenbury and Shaun Tan are among the illustrators on the picture book list, while Morris Gleitzman, Scott Westerfield, Eoin Colfer and Celia Rees all feature among the paperback authors. Carlsen also have a 53% share of the manga market in Germany, and about 40% of the comic books market.
Chicken House Germany, a joint venture partnership between Carlsen Verlag and UK publisher The Chicken House, was launched in Autumn 2009. They have also agreed a joint venture with Nosy Crow Publishing to co-publish apps as well as "traditional" books.
Latest acquisitions include Marissa Meyer's CINDER quartet; THE GRISHA by Leigh Bardugo; GRAFFITI MOON by Cath Crowley; Michael Williams' NOW IS THE TIME FOR RUNNING; and Frank Cottrell Boyce's THE UNFORGOTTEN COAT.
